The thrill of seeing a Broadway show in Columbus starts long before the curtain rises. It begins once you enter the historic Ohio and Palace theaters. The gilded Ohio Theatre opened in 1928 as "a palace for the average man." And "palace" is the way to describe it. A whopping $1 million was spent on furnishing the Spanish-Baroque style theater when it opened - more than the cost of the building. The Palace Theatre opened two years earlier by the same designer, Scottish-born Thomas Lamb, who used France's Palais de Versailles as his inspiration.
